Totnes is a lively and friendly town surrounded by beautiful countryside. The river Dart flows through the town and there are lovely walks and cycle paths up and down the river. A ferry boat goes down to Dartmouth and there is a steam train up to Buckfastleigh.

30 minutes away to the south is the South Devon coast with its spectacular cliffs and sandy beaches. 30 minutes to the north is Dartmoor, a National Park with forests and open moorland.

Totnes has a thriving high street and it is a good place in which to shop. There are markets on two days of the week (Friday and Saturday) and there are many cafes, restaurants and pubs and a wide range of independent food shops.
