Totnes is a lively and friendly town surrounded by beautiful countryside. The river Dart flows through the town and there are lovely walks and cycle paths up and down the river. A ferry boat goes down to Dartmouth and there is a steam train up to Buckfastleigh.

30 minutes away to the south is the South Devon coast with its spectacular cliffs and sandy beaches. 30 minutes to the north is Dartmoor, the National Park with forests and open moorland.

Totnes has a thriving high street and it is a good place in which to shop. There are markets on two days of the week and there are many cafes, restaurants and pubs and a wide range of independent food shops.
